ENDANGERED NEW ZEALAND BIRDS

We were learning about endangered birds and what will kill them if they are not kept safe, and my teacher put the assessment sheet we had to work on and it was about the endangered birds. I also had to list down some predators

  1. Make a list of some endangered birds in New Zealand.
  Screenshot 2016-03-14 at 2.33.03 PM.png
Takahe      There are 200 Takahe's left in the world.

Screenshot 2016-03-15 at 2.21.52 PM.png

Black Robin  There are only 250 Black Robin’s left in the world.

Screenshot 2016-03-15 at 2.28.54 PM.png

Kakapo  There are only 40 Kakapos left in the world.

2.  Why have these birds become endangered?
These defenseless birds were an easy food source for the first humans, ancestors of the New Zealand Maoris, and later European settlers. People brought with them a host of predators: dogs, cats, weasels, possums, and rats.

3.  What can you do to help endangered birds?

I can help by picking up rubbish because sometimes bird’s think that plastic bags are food and eat the plastic then they could die.

The food’s journey to the large intestine.
Digestive, System, Human, Digestion, Labelled, Diagram
This explains how the food that you eat enters your large intestine.

First your mouth bites the food into little pieces then your saliva wraps it up to go down your esophagus while your tongue helps push it down.
When the food is in your esophagus your esophagus muscles pushes down to your stomach.

When the food is in your stomach gastric acid turns it into liquid.

When the food turns into liquid your small intestine digests the food and take in all the nutrients.

Finally what remains enters the large intestine. Here your large intestine collects the water and excretes the waste.

Hello everyone today I am here to talk to you and to convince you to stop destroying the environment and most importantly stop destroying trees.

Do you know how much disease is in the air because of your doing?  I'm sure that you don't because if you did then you will know how much kids and adults are suffering in the world because there is hardly any more trees in the world and they have less fresh air to breathe and there is much less fruit in the world growing on them.

If you cared as much as I do for little children and adults then you would have enough love to encourage others and yourself to stop destroying our forests.

Please as I said earlier, people are suffering because of the pollution that is happening in the world. If I had the right to stop all of this destruction then I would because although some people in the world call this destruction it's actually called extinction.

There were so many extraordinary forests in the world but now they are all just some abandoned desert all filled with sand and camels.

If you want to make a difference in the world then encourage the Government then  the best way to do that is to stand for the trees.

The Easter Breakfast

Last week on  Thursday  Room11 went to the Library for a Easter Breakfast.

When we walked into the library we could not believe our eyes!

We saw a long table filled with Hot cross buns, hot chocolate with marshmallows and three Easter eggs! Before we ate Mr Ramkolowan asked us to do some research about the meaning of Easter and to find out who was first to discover Hot cross buns. Then we ate the delicious food!

When we ate the food we were all delighted because it was so delicious! When we finished eating we cleaned up our mess and said thank you to Mr Ramkolowan. And we waited until everyone was finished and then we listened to the piano which Jolie played on.

Before we left Mya,Sita,Hanatia and I took all of the cups to the school kitchen for a clean and Sive and Sunipa took the long table to the hall.

Conclusion: When we went back to class we all sat down and continued to do our daily work.

THE END………..

We were learning to write narratives in class today. This is my story about a cat that got superpowers.

Supercat.
Once upon a time there was a kitten, a kitten that loved nature. This kitten was named Fluff. Fluff was looking for some food to eat when he found some leftover chicken lying on the walkway. It had something stuck to it but Fluff paid no attention to it.

After Fluff ate that piece of chicken, he realized he was much bigger than before. And when he went back home, Fluff licked his paws to gave himself a wash, but what Fluff didn’t know was that he had armour all over his body. He was surprised. Then he went into the bathroom to look in the mirror, he practised his meowing and all that came out was… "Hi I am Fluff and I am a kitten."

He was amazed by the change in his voice. He went for another walk around town and every person he walked past started staring at him.
“Meow,” he said. But what actually came out was, "Hello."
Fluff started to realize that he could actually interact with humans. "What is happening to me?"
Fluff asked himself.

As Fluff wondered to himself what would happen next, his eyes turned red. "Aaaagh!" He was shooting laser beams everywhere. So he asked some boys nearby for some spare shades and after he finally got some, Fluff was safe from his newly known powers. Then he heard a kid stuck in a tree crying and wailing. Fluff then started running up to the tree and ... he found he started to fly.
"WHOA," the girl said, "That's so cool. Who are you?"

"Thank you for saving me," said the girl."I have to get back to class."
And Fluff asked the little child where her school was.
“I go to Glen Innes School," said the girl.
Then Fluff suggested he could fly her back. The girl replied, "yes" and when she got back to school, all the students and teachers started saying….
“It’s a bird”
“It’s a plane”
"No!" said Fluff, "I am a cat."
“A supercat”, said the girl.
"Thank you Supercat." all the children shouted.
"You are welcome." said Supercat, "from now on I am making a vow to watch over Glen Innes School."
And that he did. Every time there was trouble, Supercat was always there. And he got to know everyone else at Glen Innes School better.

And that is the story of Glen Innes School’s hero, Supercat.

Summer Time.

The grass so green,
The sun so bright,
Life seems a dream,
No worries in sight
Longer days and shorter nights,
Darker shades and brighter lights.
Louder music and wilder friends,
No need for pencils, no need for pens!

One day there was a superhero in the the land called Glen Innes. She was a supercat and she could save lives, fight the bad guys and also help the poor. One day, Superman died and that left only Supercat to save the day.

Supercat teleported to Heaven and went to go and see Superman. She learnt a few new ricks from him. Then she flew all the way back to Glen Innes School because there was danger and Supercat had to go and save the children. So Supercat swooped down and saved these children at Glen Innes School from the cruel Care-a-kater who was trying to mow them down with thew ride on lawn mower..

All the children ran up to Supercat and hugged her and said, "Thank you, Supercat." Supercat was happy and went home to her castle in the Glen Innes. But just then Point England had trouble at their school and although they already had a super hero he was nowhere to be found. So Supercat had to go and save the day again. Supercat saved the day and went back home very tired looking forward to a nice warm shower and some rest.

That evening there was a big surprise for Supercat. The prime minister of New Zealand came to see her. He asked Supercat if she wanted to be rich and and be his minister but she won’t be a super hero any more. And did you know what Supercat said? She said no because she wanted to take superman's place and be just like him helping people.

She did the right thing to tell the prime minister no and followed her dreams.

SUMMERTIME POEM - Jazire

The sun is hot and steaming
The waves on the beach are gleaming.
They sparkle like stars in the night sky
While all of the little birds fly up high.

The kids like to roll around in the grass
And all of their parents get their peace at last.
Summertime is the time of fun
It's warm and calm under the sun.

So when it's summertime don't forget
to grab a hose and DO get wet.
Mmm Plums, Ice cream and chocolate chips
I eat them all up and throw away the pips.

Longer day and shorter nights
More time to play no worries in sight.
I love summertime!

Looking at our ferry from Tiritiri

On Wednesday, 24 February, we went to Tiritiri Matangi Island to see and study the native New Zealand birds and trees.  We went with Rooms 12 and 10 students.  The guide told us about the birds and trees.  I felt amazing and it was fun.
Friday 11 March 2016

This term we studied New Zealand Native Birds.  We visited Tiritiri Matangi Island to see some of these birds.  That trip was awesome.  I created a flipbook about New Zealand Native birds.  I hope you enjoy reading it.
Thursday 10 March 2016
Room 11 went to Tiritiri Matangi Island.  The students had fun looking and listening to the New Zealand birds that live there.

We first spotted a Tui.  We loved the blue black feathers on its back.
Tui

Next we saw a New Zealand Wood Pigeon also called the Kereru.  It is  is a plump purple and bottle-green pigeon with a white bib, and red eyes, bill and legs.
Kereru
The next bird we saw was the New Zealand Grey Robin.  It is also called a  toutouwai.  Our pictures of the robin were all blurred so we dont have any to put up here.

Then we saw the Saddleback.  Also called the Tieke, the saddleback  are glossy black with chestnut coloured feathers on its back that looks like a saddle.
Tieke

We were also very lucky to see the rarest bird in New Zealand.  This bird is called the stichbird or the Hihi.  We saw the female bird.  I think the brightly coloured male was hiding!
Hihi

After looking at these awesome birds, some of us fell asleep on the ferry back to Auckland.
A very tired bird spotter.

Wednesday 24 February 2016
On Wednesday the 24 February 2016 our class went to Tiritiri Matangi Island.  We used two modes of transport to get there.  First it was a very early morning ride in the bus to the Ferry terminal.

Next it was a long, but exciting ride in the ferry.

We reached the Island at 10:30 in the morning, were put into groups and walked around looking at some amazing sights.  Room 11 will tell you more about this in the next blog.

Tuesday 23 February 2016
Not long ago most of the students in our class had a hand in planting our orchard of over 100 trees.  When our teacher took us to the orchard the other day, we were surprised to see the trees hanging with delicious fruit.

mmmm, this plum is devine!

We immediately tasted the plums and apples that were ready to eat.

The pears looked mouthwatering too, but our teacher assured us that they were not yet ready.
We also can't wait to taste the yellow peaches which are heavily laden on the trees.

Harrison, the new kid in our class was chuffed when his new chromebook was delivered to him.  He could not stop beaming as he opened the box to reveal his new chromebook.

Room 11 started the new year (2016) not with a bang, but with a JUMP!.  Yes we jumped for joy when we came to Room 11.  We jumped up when we went for our first fitness run.  We jumped when our teacher said that we were starting swimming the next day.  And we jumped and jumped and jumped when our teacher took us to the jumping castle.
Jumping around on the first day of school.

Thursday 18 February 2016
We started the first day at our school with a bang.  First, we got to see our Principal open the brand spanking new playground for the juniors.  We were a little jealous because we could not play on it, but I am sure my teacher will find time to take us there. (We hope).
The opening of the Junior playground.
Then it was time to go to the hall and be placed in our new classes for 2016.  We all crossed our fingers and hoped we are placed in the class we wanted to be in.  When our names were called to be in Room 11 there was much relief but a few sighs too.  Now we are comfortable in Room 11.  It is such a cool class!
We are waiting to be placed in our new classes for 2016.

We're Back!

Hello everyone, we are now called Room 11 and we are back.  This year we have a strong Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7 class with our teacher Mr Ramkolowan encouraging us along.  We are excited about our Year 5 students chromebook rollout this week.  We are also looking forward to our Tiritiri Matangi trip next week (Please pray that it does not rain!).  The coaches from "SwimMagic" are doing a fantastic job teaching us the finer points of swimming.  Everyone in our class just love to get into the pool. - And thank you to all those lovely people who answered "Steve's" FaceBook call and sent swimming togs to our school.  We are humbled and very grateful to you all.  Now instead of shorts we have real swimming togs to get into the pool.
